Love your writing! Your 30s are all for this, I think. I wound up in a kickass town with a kickass business doing kickass projects in mine.

In my 40s with a serious illness, I realized my quest for hell yeses was starting to make me miserable. I was ordering 15 pairs of shoes of Zappos to buy "the one" and spending hours taping boxes to send them all back. I was dismissing dudes on date one whom I'd later get to know in some other small town way and wishing hard that I'd given them a real shot. I got too picky on projects and wound up with none. The hell yes relationships? Hehehehehehe NO.

In my 40s, I don't ignore the voice that says, "I don't really like this and I don't want to convince myself I do." But I am learning to follow a voice that says, "I see some good stuff here; let's try it on for a bit!" I just picked a pair of boots that didn't check off all the boxes out of my latest ridiculous Zappos haul and then I never took them off and now they're broken in and tested and I love them. I kept going out with a guy I wasn't sure about (because "sure" in the past meant limerence) until I discovered the sweetest, kindest, most stable relationship of my life. I took some projects that weren't perfect and had an easy, restful time doing them.

I'm still grateful for my hell yes or no era—we ALL need that overhaul at one point! But once you get good at it, it might be time for a new era. One where you've flexed your self trust muscles long enough they're strong enough to see you through some new explorations.

Oh this is sooooo good. Stealing "fuck yes" or "no" to apply it to literally every single part of my life!! I recently had an opportunity come up that looked amazing but there was just something that I wasn't sure about and this has literally just clicked - it wasn't an immediate "fuck yes". Thank you for sharing!!
